The regular season has concluded for the Viking Track Teams, and the story of both the boys’ and girls’ seasons has been a youth movement. The youth movement has been a rebuilding project for the girls, but the boys’ team won every regular season meet. The girls have had their bright spots though. Junior Vierda Kerlin has been dominant and is in the top 16 in Pinellas County in the 200, 400, and 800 meter races. She plans to focus on the 400 meters this Thursday, at the county championships. Another junior, Rolynn Wilson, is ranked third in the county in discus, and 13th in the shot put. She also won a city title in discus. In pole vault, the girls have been dominant. Senior Kayleigh Biss and Sophomore Kelly Barszcz both broke the school record this season and both ranked in the top five in the county.

The boys team, although young, have made an impact this season. Sophomore BJ Miles is ranked 3rd in the county in both shot put and discus. Sophomore Matt Maier has been consistently winning in the mile, and Freshman Kashief Edwards and Sophomore Xavier McDonald have been scoring points in the 100 meters and long jump. Sophomore Sam Sockol is also a top 5 pole valuter. The team might be young, but the seniors are pulling their weight. Senior Poll Vaulter Desmond Rodriguez has the school record in pole vault, and fellow seniors Michael Ecker-Randolph, Ryan Jiaram, and Keith Jackson have been dominant in the mile, 800 meters, and 100 meters respectively. Ecker-Randolph won a city championship this season.

Although the regular season is over, the team is still working toward PCAC’s, and districts in two weeks, where the top 4 placers in each even move onto regionals.
