Senior Northeast Football Player Marcel Scott went on a visit to Quincy University in Illinois this weekend and the visit turned into a life-changing moment; he was offered a scholarship to play football for the school. He accepted that offer and will enroll at Quincy this fall.

Scott was an important part of the Vikings turnaround on the gridiron. The team’s record went from 2-8 to 7-2 in one season. He was a part of a senior class that although was not highly touted by the media, became leaders and established Northeast as a program of tough kids with high character. Scott reflected that.

“Marcel did it the right way. He worked hard on the field and in the classroom, “Head Coach Jeremy Frioud said.

Scott felt coaching and buying in contributed to the success of the season.

“When we transitioned to a new coaching staff, they got us wanting to win and only having players that want to win for the team, ” Scott said.

Scott also credits his mother for him getting a college scholarship.

“She always pushed me and told me to never settle, ” Scott said. “She told me to be my own person and go to college.”

Although he still has a wrestling season to finish, he already reflects on his football career with fond memories.

“To win our final game against Lakewood on the last play of our senior season, it couldn’t of been better.”

When asked to give advice to younger players looking to earn a scholarship, he offered this: “Work hard, stay focused and find people who do the same, surround yourself with those people.”
